10 podcasts I love, get inspired by my favourites

If you’re looking for some inspiration, education and entertainment, look no further than the world of podcasts. In recent years, this medium has exploded in popularity, and with good reason! There are now podcasts on just about every topic imaginable. This week, I’m sharing my top 10 favourites – all of which are led by inspiring women. Whether you’re looking to start your own business or want to become a more confident communicator, these podcasts have something for you.

1. The Revisionaries

A podcast from Michele Romanow, the co-founder of Clearbanc. A financial technology company that has revolutionized the way entrepreneurs get funded. On her podcast, she interviews some of the world’s most successful business people to find out how they got to where they are today.

This was recommended to me by Raven Reads founder and CEO, Nicole McLaren one day during a check-in meeting when I was her marketing intern. I have long admired Michele Romanow’s career and consider her one of my top role models. This was a game-changer for me, listening to how other entrepreneurs failed more than they succeeded, they did not give up, they asked for help and kept trying. I still listen for inspiration when things seem too much on my own journey. I strongly recommend this to anyone who feels overwhelmed in their journey, whether student, parent, or business.

To listen, you will need an Amazon account and probably an audible membership, I have both since I am a massive audiobook fan. Here is a link to get started. https://bit.ly/3I90Sv8

2. Millennial Rising

Is a podcast for millennial women to level up in the workplace from marketing leader Lindy Norris. She has created a platform where she shares her knowledge on how to become a stronger leader, a stronger voice and a stronger woman in the professional world.

I discovered this podcast when Lindy launched it on social media, I immediately jumped on the chance to listen to her knowledge and advice. My favourite podcast is episode 9, “Imposter syndrome: It’s everywhere. What can you do about it?”. It really resonated with me on a deep level and there was solid advice in there I intend to follow. Lindy was always someone to look up to growing up as we both were in the equestrian world, but now she is a top leader in the same field as myself. Again, I highly recommend this podcast to any working professional woman who is looking for some stellar advice.

I listen to a majority of these podcasts on Spotify, so that is the link I will be sharing. Most are also available on Apple as well, or how you choose to listen to podcasts. Take a listen to Millennial Rising here https://spoti.fi/3MKE08O

3. The Matriarch Movement Podcast

This inspiring, powerful podcast with host Shayla Oulette Stonechild features interviews with Indigenous women who are leading the way in their communities. Through their stories, we learn about the unique challenges and opportunities they face. This podcast is incredibly relatable and powerful.

I first tuned in to listen to another one of my role models, Nicole McLaren, talk about how she created a safe space with Raven Reads. After listening to Nicole and Shayla, I listened to episodes one and two and was moved by the issues discussed. I felt it in my soul, the Indigenous issues that people face today fuel my passion to help. I recommend this to everyone, it gives a unique perspective on urban colonization, how to de-colonize, educate yourself and others and more.

4. The Confidence & Communication Podcast with Jessica Dumas

The C & C podcast is about helping women build confidence and communicate effectively. Jessica takes a positive approach to overcome barriers in having the confidence to speak her mind about what you care about and being able to communicate effectively. She brings on guests like Sherry McKay and Deanne Hupfield who bring their own expertise and stories to help Jessica’s audience feel like their not alone and help stir inspiration.

I like tuning into this podcast for Jessica’s crucial advice on being more confident, overcoming your fears and becoming a stronger communicator. I love hearing her laugh, get raw with her audience, and hear her perspective on important issues. It delivers a trust that is hard to find on a podcast, and I look forward to her uploads every week. If you struggle with self-confidence or communication skills, not only is this podcast a great place to start, but Jessica Dumas herself is the best person for the job.

5. HBR: Women at Work

A weekly podcast from Harvard Business Review covers career growth, negotiation, and work/life balance for women, from women. If you’re a business student, Harvard Business Review is a wonderful source for ideas and advice and a great place to source from.

This was found for a research project for school, where I found season 4, episode 10 “When you work in a male-dominated industry”. The hour spent listening, and feeling so understood that I actually shouted “YES!” multiple times, it got me hooked for life. I went back to the beginning, and highly recommend this podcast for women in any workplace. The advice and encouragement found here are pure gold. 7. Pow Wow Pitch Podcast

Pow Wow Pitch is a podcast that features Indigenous women entrepreneurs who pitch their businesses to a panel of investors. Hosted by Indigenous entrepreneur Sunshine Tenasco, this podcast is inspiring, educational, and empowering.

As a fellow pitcher on Pow Wow Pitch, it was wonderful to hear the different leaders speak and inspire pitchers on what they are capable of and where they could go. It definitely worked for me, I was able to get a clearer and better understanding of what I was doing in this pitch competition, and the day I pitched, the day I met Sunshine Tenasco herself (virtually). That was the best day of 2021 for me personally. If there is anyone who is doing any pitch competition, I would take a listen and hear the exceptional advice from these community leaders.
